In the OpenJournals Publishing (OJP) portfolio, all scholarly journals are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License, our Open Access standard, whereby they are freely available online immediately upon publication. Readers may download, host, print, adapt and distribute the complete works – all use is fair use so long as the original author(s) and source are credited on each occasion. As our core focus is on the dissemination of new researched knowledge and teaching, we promote the archiving and depositing of journal content on multiple database platforms. This ensures accessibility to journal content and enhances the usability of all deposited publications by allowing sophisticated searching, manipulation, and mining of the texts and images.
It is our belief that academic research should be promoted within the public domain and so we are the first African publisher to offer publication in print, as well as Open Access publication in three online formats: PDF, HTML and XML. Each of our journals is hosted on its own Open Access website through which members of the public can locate and read articles from current and past issues, as well as access information on the print journal.
The PDF article provides the most direct print–online translation of the journal, with each high-quality file designed according to the journal format and available to download. The PDF is also converted to HTML, which allows for immediate online access to the article in an easy-to-read format, while the XML version allows the article to be efficiently and effectively catalogued by a number of search engines and electronic indexing platforms, providing improved searchability and a stronger online presence for both the article and its associated journal. |
